Kedai Kopi & Makanan Mooi Mooi @ Happy Garden, Kuchai

Another quick review- Another coffee shop that I visit quite often for it's roasted pork. Be early if you would like to visit as it's always crowded.

MM_1

Kedai Kopi & Makanan Mooi Mooi @ Happy Garden

MM_3

Well marinated with salt and five spice powder and perfectly roasted with crunchy effect. Well, it explains why the coffee shop is always crowded.

MM_5

Besides roasted pork, they serve char siew (BBQ pork) too. Well seasoned and grilled with sweet with sticky sauce.

MM_4

Other than roasted pork and char siew (BBQ pork), you may opt for roasted chicken or steamed chicken as well.

MM_2

And with all of the above, it is served with a plate of aromatic rice

Remember, be early! It's always crowded.

Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa Kampung Baru

Nasi Lemak, one of the national dish of Malaysia. A dish that is eaten at any time and easily spotted at every street corners to local themed cafes/restaurants.

At all times, my craving for Nasi Lemak ends at
CT Garden . But this time is different, we were at Setapak last week and I saw this quite attracting greeny signboard "Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa Kampung baru (since 1973)", one of the famous Nasi Lemak eating place in town and then we popped in to have our brunch!

Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa Kampung Baru @ Taman Melati Setapak

Clean & organised food preparation counter

Nasi Lemak with Rendang Ayam

Nasi Lemak with telur goreng

The rice cooked with coconut milk and screwpine leaves were great and aromatic! Too bad, I don't really fancy the sweet adn welcoming sambal as it is not spicy at all. And it seems that the only thing that pleased me is the glass of Assam Boi juice that I have ordered....

My glass of Assam Boi Juice

Not that the food is not nice, but expected something much better. Would probably visit their first outlet and Kampung Baru. Any differences? Anyone?

Teochew porridge by Restaurant Lock Tin (乐园潮州粥) @ Old Klang Road

Lock Tin, a teochew porridge restaurant initially operating in a small and humble hut hidden behind a snooker plaza along Old Klang Road has moved to a shop lot across the road! Even the restaurant has moved to a shop lot, somehow the location of the restaurant is still not easy to be spotted. Kinda weird, but still as crowded as before.

About Teochew porridge (congee)

Teochew also known as Chaozou is located is Guangdong China and Teo chew porridge is believed to be one of their cultural dining style.
Porridge known as "mui" is the teochew version of rice porridge. Porridge are watery with visible rice grains and normally served with various types of dishes like fish, preserved meats and eggs etc.

Restaurant Lock Tin prepares 30 types of delectable dishes everyday. Dishes include vegetables, fish, meat and preserved food. All dishes are fresh and definitely not some leftovers. With that much of selection, one can hardly resist to dine in at Lock Tin. It's alright if you do not fancy porridge as they do serve rice as well and most important of all, the prices are reasonable compared to others.

Some selection of dishes for dinner with a bowl of double boiled lotus root soup and yes, that means there are double boiled soups available too.

My post doesn't end here and it continues with seafood theme. Also there are various type of seafood porridge serve by Lock Tin. Looks delicious but am yet to try!

Wong Ah Wah Chicken Wings 黄亚华 烧鸡翼@ Jalan Alor

It has been a very busy week. A week where everything has to be quick. Quick lunch, quick dinner... quick quick quick! Hmpf! Anyway, I was craving for grilled chicken wings . And so, where else? Of course Wong Ah Wah Chicken Wings 黄亚华 烧鸡翼@ Jalan Alor, KL! Had a quick and early dinner here but a real pleasant dinner especialy with the delicious chicken wings.

Famous over the years, Wong Ah Wah is sure to delight everyones taste buds with their delicious grilled chicken wings. Perfectly marinated and expertly grilled, the outer layer of the chicken wings are grilled to crispy covering the succulent, juicy and tender chicken meat. Take a bite and you will agree with me- it's absolutely delightful!

Besides chicken wings, the restaurant served various type of fried noodles, vegetables as well as seafood. And we orderd:

Roasted pork noodles
The roasted pork noodles tasted a bit different from what I have expected. Don't get me wrong, it tasted good but I still prefer the roasted pork noodles by Seng Kee @ Petaling Street.

Fried potato leafs
Brings back some old memories to me. Grandma used to prepare this vegetable dish for lunch. Fried in a simple way and yet delicious.

Well, that's about it. Ya, a song to share with all of you.....a song that I hum quite often

Thanks to the late Hong Kong comedian actress
Lydia Shum for the song!

Fatty Porridge 肥佬田鸡粥 @ OUG

Porridge also known as rice congee is popular among the Asian countries and very often it is considered a food suitable for the unwell as it helps indigestion. It is also taken as an everyday meal. As for me, I don't really fancy congee, as the fullness doesn't last long.

But, I do eat congee once in a while especially when I don't feel well. Visited this popular stall in OUG for few consecutive days and it seems that the congee served by fei lou (fatty) is appetizing. The most popular serving would be the claypot gong poh frog and then the claypot ginger and onion fish. The dish are served with plain porridge.

Fatty Porridge 肥佬田鸡粥 @ OUG

Dried Scallop Congee @ RM 7.00
It's plain and simple but damn tasty! Dried scallop or more known as conpoy boiled with congee and ginger. It's appetizing and seems nutritious!

Claypot Gong Poh Frog @ RM 16.00 served with plain congee (claypot) @ RM 1.00
Frog cooked in claypot with dried chillies, onions, ginger and the seasoning. A flavorsome dish to eat along with the plain congee.

Does this looks delicious to you?

Claypot ginger and onion fish @ RM 16.00 served with plain congee (claypot) @ RM 1.00
Fish cooked in claypot with ginger and onions and seasonings. A tasteful and fresh dish to eat along with the congee.

Basically, the types of congee served by fei lou are delicious. The congee were boiled till soft and fine and the dishes here are tasteful and appetizing. Do try!

Nasi Lemak @ Jalan San Peng

Most of the time, I am too lazy to travel to KL for food especially during weekends. Well, I travel to the golden triangle to work from Monday to Friday and if it is during the weekends, I would prefer somewhere other than Kuala Lumpur!! This is different this time, it's because I was craving for nasi lemak and I recalled this stall which we often called it San Peng Nasi Lemak. San Peng is not the person who sells Nasi Lemak, it's the name of the road Jalan San Peng and it so happened that the stall famous at this area, and they named it San Peng Nasi Lemak.

If you are looking for the chinese version and more like the home cooked style of Nasi Lemak, this is the place! The Nasi Lemak here are quite pricey. You pick on the dishes that you prefer and condiments to add on your Nasi Lemak, the more you pick the more expensive is your Nasi lemak. Hahahahaa.......ikan bilis, chilli paste, hard boiled eggs, fried long beans, RM 1 each portion. Be careful with what you pick huh......

My plate of Nasi Lemak @ RM 6.80

San Peng Nasi Lemak operates from 8.30 pm- 2.30 am from Monday to Saturday, closes on Sunday. It's always crowded around 10.00 pm and during midnights.vIt's sort of difficult to locate this stall due to it's location but I guess people around Jalan Loke Yew area might be able to help you if you are asking for direction.

Location:
Jalan San Peng,
Behind Shell Station located along Jalan Loke Yew

Ah Wang Bak Kut Teh @ Old Klang Road

Ah Wang makes me frustrated most of the time!!! Because of Ah Wang the traffic at the main Old Klang road slows down. Diners slowed down to look for parking and this causes jam at Batu 4 1/2 of Old Klang Road. Out of curiosity, I decided to find out what is so special about Ah Wang since he is so much on demand now!

Ah Wang Bak Kut Teh @ Baru 4 1/2 Old Klang Road

Ah Wang Bak Kut Teh @ RM 8.00
Wonder why do people stop by to have Ah Wangs' Bak Kut Teh........the soup was good but not the pork served. Overall, it is just so-so in taste. Work harder AhWang!!! Anyway, I noticed quite a number of diners ordered Bak Kut Teh, so I did too....

Steamed Fish Head with Ginger @ RM 24

This is the dish that impressed me! Don't ask me what fish is this, I asked the waitresses there and they were mumbling! Since I asked 3 different waitresses...am a bit shy after that...hahahahaha! According the waitress, different flavor of steamed fish head is prepared by different chef. The most popular one would be their Steamed Fish Head with black bean paste but their chef is not working today. So, we ordered the steamed fish head with ginger (medium size) which is also a preferred flavors of diners.

When the steamed fish head is served, we were surprised with the size of the fish head. It's about 1 foot in length and 5-6 inches width. The pounded ginger absorbs well into the fish and it tasted fresh and delicious!

If you happen to pass by Old Klang Road and notice that the traffic slows down, it must be Ah Wang! Do stop by ya!!..I prefer the steamed fish head rather than their Bak Kut Teh, but some find it tasty too. Well, again...it always depends on our own tastebud. Bye bye Ah Wang! See you!

Meng Kee Char Siu @ Tengkat Tong Shin

In my previous post on
Char Siu Rice @ Kedai Kopi Tian Hong, I have came across many reviews on Meng Kee Char Siu Rice, but I didn't really read the reviews of it until recently after my colleague and I went to Meng Kee @ Tengkat Tong Shin for lunch.

Meng Kee has been operating for years and they have another branch in Glenmarie too. There are reviews stating that Meng Kee's roasted pork (char siu) doesn't taste as good as before, for me, I have not been to this place earlier, so I wouldn't know the difference.

Meng Kee Char Siu Rice @ Tengkat Tong Shin

Meng Kee's Char Siu (Roasted/ Fork burn pork)
The outer layer of the roasted pork are crispy and I personally think that the roasted pork is too rich with maltose/caramel/honey. The outer layer is sort of sticky and the sweetness covered away the taste of the marinades. Can't taste much on the pork but only sweetness and the crispyness of the, perhaps this is why they are special!

Meng Kee's Steamed Chicken

Vegetables

Steamed chicken is a must at Meng Kee as they do not have other optional dishes other than char siu and vegetables. I don't like steamed chicken but this is considered a good one. Not much fats and chicken meat were tender.

The walk from office to Tengkat Tong Shin wasn't that far actually, but the sights of dead mouse and garbage sites makes me feel like throwing up after lunch. What a lunch!!
