Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa Kampung Baru

Nasi Lemak, one of the national dish of Malaysia. A dish that is eaten at any time and easily spotted at every street corners to local themed cafes/restaurants.

At all times, my craving for Nasi Lemak ends at
CT Garden . But this time is different, we were at Setapak last week and I saw this quite attracting greeny signboard "Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa Kampung baru (since 1973)", one of the famous Nasi Lemak eating place in town and then we popped in to have our brunch!

Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa Kampung Baru @ Taman Melati Setapak

Clean & organised food preparation counter

Nasi Lemak with Rendang Ayam

Nasi Lemak with telur goreng

The rice cooked with coconut milk and screwpine leaves were great and aromatic! Too bad, I don't really fancy the sweet adn welcoming sambal as it is not spicy at all. And it seems that the only thing that pleased me is the glass of Assam Boi juice that I have ordered....

My glass of Assam Boi Juice

Not that the food is not nice, but expected something much better. Would probably visit their first outlet and Kampung Baru. Any differences? Anyone?

Sweet Buffet Set by LuLu Nyonya Kueh

Kuih muih are the Asian cakes and pastries. Kuih muih also refers to a wide selection of bite sized dessert, most of the time sweet but not all.

Nyonya kuih are similar to Malay kuih muih as both are from the same family. There are no specific ways to differentiate Nyonya kuih and Malay kuihs. The Peranakans (Baba & Nyonya) took heavy influences on Malay culinary and hence the food are identical to both culture. The only difference is that Peranakans do consume porks and in certain preparation of food items/dishes, porks are one of the ingredients used. That reminds me of Nyonya Zhang (Nyonya dumplings), one of my favorite.

Well, that's a brief introduction for everyone.

Have you seen the LuLu Nyonya Kueh stalls at the shopping malls- Mid Valley Megamall, Sungei Wang Plaza, Amcorp Mall, Great Eastern Mall etc??? The LuLu Nyonya kueh never fails to attract patrons as the display of colorful and wide selection of kuih muihs looks tempting at all time.

But, do you know that LuLu Nyonya Kueh do offer buffet/party set as well? Here ia the set that we have ordered for an event.

Sweet Buffet Set @ RM 55.00 (serves 10-15 person)
There is a long list of kuih muihs to choose and we picked:
  1. Talam keladi- Yam & Coconut milk
  2. Pulut Tai Tai - Glutinous rice with bunga teluang served with kaya
  3. Kueh Cendol- Cendol & coconut milk
  4. Batik Sago- Sago in different colours topped with desicated coconut
  5. Bingka Ubi- Tapioca palm sugar
  6. Onde-onde- Palm sugar & desicated coconut

Beautifully presented and definitely looks tempting. All the kuih muih are fresh and newly prepared. Tasted good and pleasing too. And if you are planning for an event, here is a good recomendation for you!

Place your order and the buffet sets are delivered to your door step!

Wan Tan Mee(Wonton Noodles) @ Sungai Besi

I named it the transformer! It's a car air cond service shop during day time and by evening, the Wan Tan Mee stall starts operating by evening. It's a stall that never fails to attract the crowd. Been to this place few years ago with my sister and brother in law, am not impressed actually. Somehow, Sam has mentioned many time sbefore that he wants to try it. That's how I revisited this shop.

Wan Tan Mee @ Sungai Besi

Wan Tan (Wonton) Soup
Wan Tan/ Won ton is a dumpling filled with minced pork/prawns and spices, usually boiled and served with soup. As for me, the won ton served are dissapointing. Minced pork not well marinated with spice, wonton skin are thick and tasted floury too.

Oyster sauce- Lettuce

Wantan Noodles with ginger braised duck

Wantan Noodles with curry chicken

The noodles were great! Smooth in texture, chewy and springy. Too bad, the ginger braised duck and the curry chicken fails to satisfy us. No, I should say it's totally dissapointing! There are few choices wantan noodles dish one can choose, probably the others could be better, or else it's rather wasted to serve the higly pleasing wan tan noodles with unsavory toppings.

Nasi Lemak @ Jalan San Peng

Most of the time, I am too lazy to travel to KL for food especially during weekends. Well, I travel to the golden triangle to work from Monday to Friday and if it is during the weekends, I would prefer somewhere other than Kuala Lumpur!! This is different this time, it's because I was craving for nasi lemak and I recalled this stall which we often called it San Peng Nasi Lemak. San Peng is not the person who sells Nasi Lemak, it's the name of the road Jalan San Peng and it so happened that the stall famous at this area, and they named it San Peng Nasi Lemak.

If you are looking for the chinese version and more like the home cooked style of Nasi Lemak, this is the place! The Nasi Lemak here are quite pricey. You pick on the dishes that you prefer and condiments to add on your Nasi Lemak, the more you pick the more expensive is your Nasi lemak. Hahahahaa.......ikan bilis, chilli paste, hard boiled eggs, fried long beans, RM 1 each portion. Be careful with what you pick huh......

My plate of Nasi Lemak @ RM 6.80

San Peng Nasi Lemak operates from 8.30 pm- 2.30 am from Monday to Saturday, closes on Sunday. It's always crowded around 10.00 pm and during midnights.vIt's sort of difficult to locate this stall due to it's location but I guess people around Jalan Loke Yew area might be able to help you if you are asking for direction.

Location:
Jalan San Peng,
Behind Shell Station located along Jalan Loke Yew

Café Café @ Jalan Maharajalela, Kuala Lumpur

Each time while I was on my way back from work, I will passed by Café Café and I was wondering who the hell will go to such cafe? A cafe at a corner of a shop lot without proper parking and access route.
The location of the restaurant seems not right!

Well....I am the one who is not right!

As usual, I go online to search for places to dine , and I found this website and http://www.cafecafekl.com/cuisine.htm and the next thing I do is to fix a day to dine in Café Café.

Café Café
Classic decorations- Chandelier, cottage style cabinets, Victorian style curtains & my favorite white roses

Stepped inside this old shop and you will immediately feel that you have been transported to a spirit and sophistication of France. Café Café an elegant and cozy rendezvous reminiscent of a comfortable and intimate ambiance of Parisian/French style, a perfect venue that you can savor the traditional authentic French cuisine surrounded by warm glow of candlelight amidst of classic wooden and rustic setting.

Here is my so called "candlelight dinner".......went there after work the other day..........to celebrate the King's Birthday

Duck Confit @ RM 45-(French confit de canard) one of their signature dish, duck leg prepared by poaching it in its own fat, and grilled slowly in a low temparature. It's a bit greasy but the duck skin is thin and yet crispy with a slight salt and garlic taste of the meat. Dish is served with potatoes. A good choice for duck meat lovers or those who like to try something different.

And the here comes my Seafood Spaghetti @ RM 38, a special dish indeed, this is one of their recommended pasta, spaghetti with fresh lime taste and generous servings of seafood- scallops, prawns, squids and mussel sprinkled with almond flakes.

Chocolate cake-White Truffle @ RM 38, A thick rounded slab of chocolate cake with hot dark melted chocolates in it, served with a scoop of Haagen Daaz. An irresistible dessert!

Café Café is definitely not a restaurant that spent all their money only on the decor, it is indeed a charming and romantice restaurant for fine dining with quality food and service. Must try!! And if you wanna try... do invite me along

Nasi Lemak @ CT Garden Kampung Baru

When we mention Kampung Baru, many will recommend the Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa . I have not tried Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa as yet as I only visit CT Garden, a nasi lemak vendor tucked in the middle of the village right opposite Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa. Jun brought me there few years back and very often we had our simple meal there...I stopped visiting CT Garden for quite sometime, no particular reason for it.....and I thought I might not know the way....but I managed to find the place by guessing!

Not here, this picture is to let you know how to go to CT Garden- drive further down and turn right, go straight and when you reach first junction, turn right and drive to the end of the road turn right again, Kelab Sultan Sulaiman Building will be at your right hand side, annexed will be Ct Garden.

Time to gobble....hahahahaha...CT Garden, divided into 4 sections:
  1. The section where you take a tray and take as many packets of nasi lemak as you want, as long as you can finish it. The nasi lemak packets are rather small actually , a scoop of rice, quarter of an egg and a spooonful of delicous, spicy and tasty sambal ikan bilis. Besides that, otak-otak is available at here, you got to pay for the otak otak at this section itself, its from a different vendor.
  2. Here is the add-ons counter, this is the section where a varieties of side dishes for you to add on to eat along with nasi lemak Fried chickens, sambal chicken, fish, squids, lamb, beef, cuttle fish, begetables, sambal petai, eggs and etc.
  3. After taking packets of nasi lemak and add-ons, it's time to order your drinks, choices are as placed on the counter.
  4. Last section- Here is the payment counter- Pay before you start to eat.
Looks delicous? RM 0.70 per packet

While eating....enjoy the view of KLCC

That's about it....I will definitely be back for their Nasi Lemak!

Chilli Pan Mee @ Restoran Kin Kin

I think I am the last person who's gonna blog about Chilli Pan Mee @ Restoran Kin Kin. Who cares? I still want to write something about it! It has been quite sometime since my last visit. I remember the last time we went there, one of my friend asked the guy who served us "can't you speak politely???", The guy who is apparently owner of the restaurant, laughed and walked away.

If you are visiting this place in the afternoon, you will find it extremely crowded and you got to queue up to be sited. By the time when you sit in, the stuffiness in the shop has taken away all your mood to eat. And then comes the rude auntie who is going to take drinks order. By the time you look at her face and the way she talks while arranging for customers to share their tables, you will feel like slapping her! Like as if, we owed her few million dollars!

Well, well......My suggestions is........go there during dinner time rather than lunch time. No doubt, this is still the best Chili Pan Mee in town. I have tried others in Kuchai, Puchong & Damansara, but I just prefer this....this original Chilli Pan Mee @ Restoran Kin Kin which I have been revisiting since year 2002.

The noodles is served with an half cooked egg, so that you can mixed it up with the noodles together with their special spicy chilli paste before you eat. The texture and tenderness of their noodles are just nice, youu will know it from your first bite.Mere words could not describe the heavenly taste of the noodles. Just go for a try! If you are a forgiving person, you can go during lunch hour, or else....dinner time please!

All noodles served are standard in size, it's written on their counter " No big, No small". Price for a bowl would be RM 5.30. For the past few years, I have been seeing the same notice on the wall which is written with a marker," We have no branches!!" But this time, it's different! This is what I have noted!

For those that can't really take spicy food beware, don't act like a hero! and Don't take whiskey after that....or else.....you will suffer!

Do you know?
Bǎn miàn is a Hokkien-style egg noodle soup common in parts of China, Fujian province
(the province where my ancestors lived) Ban mian served in parts of China, such as in northern Fujian, comprises egg noodles which are boiled, and served in sesame butter sauce, and in soup.
