The Smoke House Restaurant & Bar @ Bangsar

Hi... I am back!! Here is an equation to explain everything:

Tired + Lazy + Sick + Busy = slow updates.

Forgive me for that!

Here is another update- The Smoke House Restaurant & Bar by SMOKEHOUSE HOTEL & RESTRAURANT CHAIN. I have always wanted to visit the outlet in Ampang but am not so sure if it is still there.

Anyway, I visited The Smoke House Restaurant at Bangsar- a restaurant that serves traditional English and Authentic Thai Cuisine ( by Chef Noi, former Head Chef of well known Rama V Restaurant).

SH_6

Kung Pun Ooi @ Rm 15.00
Minced chicken and shrimp wrapped in sugarcane. Love the crispness of the bread crumbs and the tasty mixture of minced meat and shrimp with slight sweetness in the middle- a result from the sugarcane skewer.

SH_7

Pasta with roast chicken @ RM 15.00
Pasta's texture - just nice. Sauce was good too. The only not so satisfying part would be the roasted chicken chunks.

SH_8

Kao Pad Pao @ RM 15.00
Fried rice with crab meat.

SH_9

Plamuek Yang @ RM 18.00
Grilled squid served with tangy, sweet and spicy sauce. Well marinated and perfectly grilled. Love it so much- I would probably go back only for this and some beer/ wine? *Grin*

SH_20

Bombe Alaska @ RM 28.00
And lastly, a dessert to end the dining session. My long awaited for- Bombe Alaska!! Yummy!! Ice cream with nata de coco with cookies as based wrapped within the baked meringue and then fired up with rum. A satisfying flaming dessert!

Bombe Alaska

Baked Alaska also known as glace au four, omelette à la norvégienne, Norwegian omelette and omelette surprise is a dessert made of ice cream placed on top of a pie, cookies, sponge cakes or puddings. (Source from Wikipedia)

Whereelse Bombe Alaska, is another variation. Dark rums are poured over Baked Alaska with lights up . The heat turns down and the whole dessert and it is flambéed while being served.

I believe there are more to be explored in this restaurant. All looks tempting though! If you are planning for a quiet dinner or to unwind after a busy day, here's a another suggestion.

Tamby Roti Canai @ Bukit Baru Melaka

So our next session for supper is at Tamby Roti Canai!

Bro was grumbling like an old man when I mentioned that I need a second round for supper. At the same time, sis in law was nodding in agreement with me.

From Batu Berendam to Bukit Baru....

Mag was mentioning roti bulat- sedap! Roti bulat by Tamby is good! So, what is roti bulat?

Tamby Roti Canai @ Bukit Baru Melaka
It was quite crowded when we arrived. Luckily, there is a table untaken!

Top left -Roti Bulat, Below left- Roti Tampal & Below right- Roti Telur

So what's roti bulat? Roti bulat= roti kosong in round shape It takes a longer time to prepare and it's true, it tasted must better! Love the aroma of the butter used and the texture of the bread is soft and yet crispy.

As for Roti Tampal & Roti Telur, bread texture is soft as well. But it's not as aromatic as Roti Bulat. Well, probably it's the amount of butter used and the length of time to flipping the flat bread on the hot griddle?

Hhhmmm.... good good!

Tamby Roti Canai @ Bukit Baru Melaka- taken in the noon, for roti canai ( at night only )

About Roti Canai

Roti Canai is a type of flat bread found in Malaysia and this dish is believed to be originated from Chennai, India(formerly known as Madras). The word "roti" means bread in Hindu and Malay and the word "canai" is believed to derived from the word Chennai but in Malay, "canai" means "to flatten". Hence, the derivation of the name and meaning of the dish, Roti Canai is still ambiguous.

Ko Hyang 故鄉 Korean Country Delights @ The Gardens Mid Valley City

"What's for lunch? What's for dinner?
"
"I don't know, you decide.... "

"No! I have no idea", you decide..."
and the question goes round and round.....

How about Korean food?

Okay, SET!

At Ko Hyang 故鄉 you can enjoy appetizing Korean cuisine at cheap/reasonable price. Ko Hyang 故鄉 Korean Country Delights serves simple country style home cooked Korean dishes.

Ko Hyang 故鄉 Korean Country Delights @ The Gardens, Mid Valley

Bi Bim Bap @ RM 15.90
Bi Bim Bap literally means mixed rice. It's a popular korean cuisine- a bowl of white rice served with namul (various sauteed vegetables) and gochujang (chilli pepper sauce) and topped chicken/beef and fried egg.

Toss.. toss.. toss... GET SET.... GO!! Yummy.. yummy..

Bi Bim Kuk Su @ RM 12.50
Also known as Bi Bim Guk Su / goldong myeon is a cold sweet and spicy noodle dish. Spice loving people like me loves Bi Bim Kuk Su. Thin wheat flour noodles seasoned with red pepper powder, chilli pepper sauce flavored with vinegar, sugar and sesame oil. Appetizing!

Dak Bokem @ RM 16.90
Dak Bokem, stir fried spicily marinated chicken with vegetables and rice. Love the sweet, hot spicy taste- flavorsome & appealing!

At Ko Hyang, rice served are rice cooked with black glutinous rice- a little sticky but aromatic.

Kim Chi Ji Kye @ RM 14.90
Kim Chi Ji Kye/Kim Chi Ji Gae a Kim Chi stew served with rice. I was expecting richer and thicker broth but result was contrariwise. I guess the Kim Chi used are fermented not long enough, soup is not too spicy and flavorful. Not bad.. not too good either ( comment is based on my own preference)

Sun Du Bu Ji Kye @ RM 14.90
It's my all time favorite!! There is another place that I revisited again and again for their Sun DU Bu Ji Kye- will post about it next time!

Sun Du Bu Ji Kye/ Sun Du Bu Ji Gae, another well known Korean stew is prepared with dubu (tofu), seafood, vegetables and gochujang with other ingredients. A raw egg is added into the bubbling broth that heightens the richness of the stew.

Ko Hyang 故鄉 definitely has a tantalizing story of Korean Country Delights to lust after! By the way, it's HALAL!

Bumbu Desa @ The Curve

Bumbu Desa, one of the Indonesia's leading restaurant is now here @ The Curve!

Was at The Curve to meet one of my friend for lunch last Sunday. We were strolling down "The Street" and the crowd at Bumbu Desa caught my attention!

Took a quick glance and saw a notice stand placed near the food display island. It indicates that the restaurant served ala carte dishes and it's not a buffet system.

I guess the food displayed at the island cabinets has given patrons the wrong idea that it is a buffet. As for me, the restaurant is kinda like a "medium to high end" mixed rice restaurant to me. Am pleased with their dishes and I revisited the restaurant the next day itself.

Bumbu Desa @ The Curve
Bumbu desa serves Sunda (Western Javanese), Padang & Melayu Cuisine. Dishes are displayed on an island, with a small indication card with a brief description of the dish. Picks your favorite/preferred dish and after frying/cooking or reheating, food will be served shortly.

Nasi Lewit
Traditional Sunda steamed rice (steamed with coconut milk and anchovies) and then served with fried anchovies. Appetizing!

Ayam Pop @ RM 7.90
Ayam Pop, one of the chicken dish believed to be originated from Padang, Indonesia. A dual process dish, the chicken was first steamed and then sauteed.
I have ordered another chicken dish- Ayam Bumbu Desa but missed taking picture of it.

Like the tenderness of the chicken, taste wise- pleasing!

Fried Talapia @ RM 16.90
Well marinated deep fried talapia. Crispy and crusty and yet juicy! Goes well with the sambal paste!

Vege @ RM 4.90

Kailan @ RM 4.90

Gulai Daun Singkong @ RM 4.90
Simmered kale leaf in coconut milk with and spice. Not as appealing as described.

Paku Pakis @ RM 4.90
The word "Paku pakis" always reminds me of the plant we used to learn during in school. Gulai Paku, also sometimes known as Gulai Pakis is a vegetable dish that originated from the Minangkabau ethnic, Indonesia.
Gulai Paku Pakis served in sweet and sourish broth, tasted ordinary.

Chilli paste @ RM 2.50
My favorite of all!! Ended up with red and thicker lips after this!

Cucumber Ice @ RM 5.90
Blended ice cucumber with lime juice, a popular drink among the Achehs. A little cooling effect for me after the meal.

Nothing extraordinary, just another dining experience to share. Am not concluding anything.... but will definitely return (but not so soon) to try other dishes! Food displayed like a buffet spread is so tempting! You might be attracted too.....

Tea Set for lunch and cakes as desserts after dinner!

Pastis @ The Gardens seems crowded during lunch hour. It raises our desire to know more about this cafe and we decided to have our lunch there. Since, my colleague and I were quite full, we had the teas set for lunch.

Pastis @ The Gardens

Afternoon Tea Set for 2 @ RM 48.90

2 pcs Toasted Salmon Sandwich
2 pcs Mini Mushroom Quiche
2 pcs Scones served with cream & jam
2 pcs Cake Sampler

Nothing so special about it. Not pleasing either.... Within the week itself, my colleagues and I were there for a drink and have a go for their cakes as dessert.

Apricot Crepe Cake 50% Promo @ RM 6.95
Tasted like my failed experiment after few hours of war in the kitchen !!!

Marble Cheesecake @ RM 11.90

Pastis Hot Chocolate Lava Cake with Ice Cream @ RM 12.90

The other two pieces of cake were neither very good not very bad. I have not try their main course and lunch sets am not grading it. In all probability, I will no revisit....

the Yogitree @ The Gardens

It has been a month or more since I last blog. Kind of experiencing the rusty brain syndrome right now!! Anyway, a review on my last few months visit- the Yogitree. It's a treat for Jessie on her big day- November 2009 ( Now you know for how long I have been delaying my post). Tried out most of the eateries at that mall and if I am not mistaken there are a few left untried and this time, I suggested the Yogitree!

the Yogitree @ The Gardens Mid Valley, Kuala Lumpur
A cafe that promotes awareness on healthy living. the Yogitree, is a food cafe that serves delicious organic meals as well as a yoga boutique. The yoga boutique is attached to the cafe and probably you would like to shop for yoga wear while waiting for your meals being served?

Am not much into Yoga anyway...Hhhmmm... Let's talk about food!!

Salad of Skewered Chargrilled Prawns with oriental dressing @ RM 26
Oriental salad dressing taste best on a mixed green salad! The dressing is prepared with sesame oil, vinegar and honey- light, sweet and tangy- it's refreshing.

Mee Siam served with curry sauce @ RM 22
Organic brown rice vermicelli (mee siam) with chicken, prawns, homemade fishcakes, Chinese chives and tau fu. Not bad!

Ayam Perchik Nasi Ulam @ RM 22.00
Organic Jasmine brown rice with fresh ulam, ikan tumeric and baked organic chicken topped with perchik sauce.Organic brown rice texture is medium hard and chewy, a bit dry but -unobjectionable!

More about brown rice: http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=128#howtouse

Ginger Spice @ RM 12.00
Ginger, Honey, Yogurt, lemon juice and mint
Stated in the menu: Rich in bioflavanoids, its an instant lift to flagging vitality. Great for fighting cold and the probitic bacteria in yoghurt is essential for immunity.

Kinda like this drink!! Perhaps I should say...I always love drinks with ginger.
