Taipei Walker @ Kuchai Lama

Another casual dining restaurant to share with everyone- Taipei Walker!

Taipei walker- A restaurant located at Kuchai Lama that serves variety of interesting Taiwanese cuisine, snacks, drinks and desserts.

TP_009

Assorted Taiwanese Mee Sua @ RM6.90
Preferred this comparing to Shihlin Taiwan Street Snacks available at the mall. Much more tastier, or perhaps- it suits my taste bud. Aromatic gravy with fresh oyster. Keep it up!

TP_002

Tainan Tan Cai Noodles with Chicken Chop @ RM 9.90
Simple & Nice- Like it!

TP_003

Sam Pei Chicken 台式三杯鸡饭 RM12.90
The set comes with rice, tofu, soup & fruits. It's know as Sam Pei Chicken as the dish is prepared with three main ingredient- soy sauces, bean oil and Chinese wine. To kick it up,ginger and spring onion was added in to enhance the aroma.

TP_005

Taiwanese Chicken Chop 台式雞排饭 @ RM 12.90
The set also comes with rice, tofu, soup & fruits. Aromatic Taiwanese style fried chicken.

TP_008 Ala Carte

Shih Lin Chicken Chop @ RM 6.00
Healthier than those we can get in hawker stalls? Yes! The not too greasy and over powering pepper version.

TP_010

Steamed bread with butter & kaya (coconut jam)

Ahhh... I know, this is not Taiwanese cuisine! Just happened to order this for a supper session during second visit.

Environmental wise- just nice!

Kedai Kopi & Makanan Mooi Mooi @ Happy Garden, Kuchai

Another quick review- Another coffee shop that I visit quite often for it's roasted pork. Be early if you would like to visit as it's always crowded.

MM_1

Kedai Kopi & Makanan Mooi Mooi @ Happy Garden

MM_3

Well marinated with salt and five spice powder and perfectly roasted with crunchy effect. Well, it explains why the coffee shop is always crowded.

MM_5

Besides roasted pork, they serve char siew (BBQ pork) too. Well seasoned and grilled with sweet with sticky sauce.

MM_4

Other than roasted pork and char siew (BBQ pork), you may opt for roasted chicken or steamed chicken as well.

MM_2

And with all of the above, it is served with a plate of aromatic rice

Remember, be early! It's always crowded.

JojoLittle Kitchen @ Kuchai Lama

The first Jojo Little Kitchen was opened in Kuchai Lama in year 2007/2008 and in year 2009, few more outlets sprouted at Klang Valley.

Jojo Little Kitchen serves:
  • Traditional Pan Mee
  • Herbal Chicken Pan Mee
  • Curry Laksa Pan Mee
  • Dry Curry Pan Mee
  • Hot & Spicy Pan Mee
  • Knife Cut Pan Mee (Noodle)
  • Lat Jiu Pan Mee
  • Fish Ball Pan Mee
  • Century Egg Dumpling Pan Mee
  • Fried Pork Pan Mee
  • Jojo's Pork Pan Mee
  • Fish Head Pan Mee & Others
Off all listed above, one of the most popular pan mee dish is the chicken herbal soup pan mee.

Chicken Herbal Soup Noodles @ RM 7.00

Chicken Herbal Soup Pan Mee (Teared version) @ RM 7.00

The chicken herbal soup ingredients consist of Dropberry (Yù Zhú-玉竹) and Wolfberries (Gei Ji-枸杞子) and that explains the sweetness of the herbal soup. Sharp in taste!

Fish Head Pan Mee- new and only available in certain outlets!

Knife Cut Pan Mee @ RM 6.00
I like the noodle texture, with a soft bite, you can feel the springiness of the noodle. And the broth was good too. It goes particularly well with the pounded chillies with dried shrimps.

3 Types of chillies served- chilli paste (Sambal), red chilli powder & pounded bird's eye chilli

Good try & Do try!!

Big Nose Restaurant @ Kuchai Entrereneur's Park

The name of the restaurant itself caught my attention-Big Nose Restaurant! Not only I am interest to join the crowd at the restaurant for dinner but also to see how big is the owner's nose!

Big Nose Restaurant @ Kuchai Entrepreneurs Park

Fried vegetables- 4 types of beans (四大天王)

Salted Vegetable with Duck Soup
A simple, light and yet delicately tasty bowl of double boiled salted vegetable with roasted duck soup. In fact, the tender roasted duck intensifies the bowl of soup... it's good!

Claypot Beancurd with Roasted Pork
Fried bean curd and roasted pork with mushroom and thick sauce-what do you think? Sharp in taste and simply pleasing.

Steamed Patin Fish
And lastly, the signature dish of Mr. Big Nose's restaurant- steamed river fish. We ordered patin fish also known as silver catfish is a pretty oilish (but not oily) fish but with fine texture. Steamed with light soy sauce, nice and pleasing!

Food is pleasing but quite pricey! I have lost the receipt and name card, can't provide much info here, but it is easy to locate- if you would like to visit!

Kam Hin Dim Sum Restaurant @ Kuchai Entrepreneur's Park

I have been missing in action for quite sometime....... I know!! Too much to do with too little time. After two weeks without a lappy, finally I have got a new one. I missed the lady in white I bought last year, too bad it's stolen.

Though after getting a new lappy, I have lost most of my "to post" blog. Luckily I have some backed up files. Then again, I was away for meeting, back to Malaysia and was ill for about a week plus. Bla............bla.....bla.....

So, here I am, trying to catch up or else I will have lots of pending post. My next few blog post will be on eateries around Kuchai Lama.

Let me start with a place for breakie or perhaps for supper- Kam Hin Dim Sum Restaurant, a restaurant which is always crowded especially during weekends! Not to worry, there are plenty of seating anyway.

In general, Kam Hin serves varieties of fresh and tasteful dim sums.

Steamed Fish Ball @ RM 3.50 per plate

Shrimp dumpling @ MYR 4.00 per plate

Siu Mai @ RM 4.00 per plate

Steamed spare ribs @ MYR 4.00 per plate

Mixed Rice Roll ( Char Siu & Shrimp) @ RM 4.00 per plate

Fried Yam Dumpling (Wu kok)

Other choices

Too many choices with too little tummy space . It's alright... I can revisit.

So, what's for breakfast tomorrow?

Have A Great Weekend everyone!

Formosa Esquire Kitchen of Taipei @ Kuchai Lama

As usual Kuchai Lama would be the nearest place to suggest for dinner as there are quite a number of eateries in this area. So, what's for dinner? Hhhmm...how about Taiwanese food?

Formosa Esquire Kitchen of Taipei @ Kuchai Lama

Fried Salty Chicken @ RM 5.90
A satisfying plate of appetizer. This is different from the Shih Lin Taiwanese Street Snacks or those that we can find in night markets. The fried salty chicken are actually fried chicken chunks. It tasted much better-well marinated, fried till crispy and then dashed with salt and pepper. Pleasing enough!

Egg Yolk Five Color Roll @ RM 6.90
Another pleasing appetizer, but a colourful one. Crispy bean curd skin wrapped with squids, seaweeds, carrots, french bean, pork and egg yolk. The taste of egg yolk elaborated the dish.

Deep Fried Pork Chop Noodles @ RM 9.90
Nothing special! Clear noodle soup topped with a little portion of braised pork and served with deep fried pork chop.

Taiwan Sausage Rice @ RM 9.90
Plain rice with braised to fu and eggs, small portion of sauteed vegetable and a plate of Taiwanese Sausage served with raw crunchy garlic. The Taiwanese sausage are not those fatty pork sausages. It's non fatty and yet aromatically sweet and saltish. Taste even better with raw garlic. Yummy!!~~

Braised Pork Rice @ RM 4.90
Small bowl of plain rice with savory braised pork. I have seen many diners ordering the braise pork rice. So we ordered one too. Taste wise- great! But then again, more gravy would be better!

Dried Noodles with Minced Pork sauce @ RM 6.90
Nothing special either. The portion of the noodles is almost same with the portion of the shreded cucumber and carrot. Taste better with chilli paste.

There are several other specialities served by Formosa Esquire Kitchen of Taipei that I have not tried. This is the collection after a few visit. Not very impressing but it's a place good enough for a simple dinner.

Homey Seafood Shop 好味 @ Kuchai Lama

One of the great thing in Kuchai is the varieties of eatery around this area. Homey Seafood Shop is the restaurant I visited this time. Sounds like a shop that sells seafood huh! Well, it's not a shop that sells seafood instead it's restaurant that serves seafood and home cook style food.

Salted vegetable soup

Sauteed String beans

Fried vegetables- 4 types of beans (四大天王)

Pork bellies with salted fish in Claypot

Clams in Shao Xing Wine Soup ( Shang Tang Lala)
A pleasing bowl of clam soup, fresh and rich in taste. Cooked with the right portion of Shao XIig wine and shredded ginger. It's irresistable!

Fried prawns with salted eggs
Sweet and salty, fried to crispy. Prawns are fresh and tasteful!

Dishes served are delicious and wholesome in flavor. Homey Seafood Shop is the next best restaurant to home cooking, a restaurant that suits every taste and wallet! Perhaps we should try their crabs next time!

大西刀 Yi Yan Restaurant

A simple noodle dish that satisfy me much. I have seen advertisement for this particular restaurant in one of the local magazine and decided to stop by for dinner.

大西刀 Yi Yan Restaurant, Malaccan style Yong Tau Fu. 西刀 fish which is known as ikan parang in our national language, is commonly used to prepare fish balls or fish paste. I guess, this is how the restaurant was named after.

大西刀 Yi Yan Restaurant @ Kuchai Lama

Sauces
Three types of sauces were placed in each table. Dark soy sauce and chilli sauce to mix with your noodles and sweet sauce for dipping yong tau fu,

Fish balls and tau fu pok stuffed with fish paste

Fried Fish Cake

Plain noodles are served, and you may add in soy sauce and chilli sauce according to your prefered taste. As for me, of course I prefer more chilli sauce. The taste of the noodles is similar to how it is served in most of the Malacca hawker stall.

There is nothing very special indeed, but the way the noodles prepared by 大西刀 Yi Yan Restaurant is similar to the Malacca style noodles dish. Miss Malacca food? Here is something to share with the Malaccans in KL!!

Nippy Noodle Restaurant @ Kuchai Lama

The name of the restaurant caught my attention and as I reached home, I start surfing and do some search on the word "nippy". Then, I learned a new word "nippy".

So, I planned to visit Nippy and see what's so nippy inside.........

Nippy Noodle Restaurant @ Kuchai Lama

Finally, this is what I have found out. Well, the noodles are indeed special , yes! only the noodles. We wanted to try more of their signature dishes, too bad, its sold out!

Their signature dish:
  • Bamboo Noodles with dry sauce
  • Prawn Wanton
  • Pan Fried Dumpling
  • BBQ Pork, Crispy Pork, Roasted Herbal Live & Pork Sausage
About Bamboo Noodles
Bamboo Noodles/Bamboo rise noodles is also known as Jook-Sing Noodles (竹昇麵). It is a rare type of Cantonese noodles prepared using a large bamboo log to tenderized the dough, where the method of preparation is found in some parts of Hong Kong, Macau & Guang Zhou.

Historically, the person who prepares the noodles will ride on the bamboo log to press the dough mixture ( egg , flour etc)

Pickled vegetable with slice pork bamboo noodles @ RM 4.80

Farm Chicken Bamboo Noodle @ RM 7.20

Pan Fried Dumpling
The Pan Fried Dumpling is one of the house's signature dish. There are 2 choices of the dumplings filling that you can choose which is minced pork or prawn with fish paste. As for me, the pan fried dumpling doesn't taste good at all. The others might like it but not me!

The bamboo noodles are special as it is prepared into very thin strands and yet springy and chewy. As for the ingredients used to cook the noodles, the taste is just normal. We wanted to try their roasted pork but it's sold out so we ordered the others.

Anyway, it's a restaurant that one can consider to visit as in the modern days, noodles are prepared using machines but in Nippy Noodle Restaurant, the noodles are prepared using the traditional way which is using the bamboo log. Besides that, they use quality ingredients to prepare the noodles.
