Yong Tau Foo @ Fatty Mok Hakka Yong Tau Foo

Mr. Yong Tau Foo invented this dish, that is why it is named Yong Tau Foo!! Okay... no such thing, I know this is not funny. It's just a lame joke

About Yong Tau Foo

Yong Tau Foo/Yong Tao Foo/Yong Tau Hu/ Yong Tau Fu is a HAKKA dish. Originally, it begins with tofu stuffed with meat paste of fish/pork and this is how the name of Yong Tao Foo was created! It means stuffed bean curd.

Yong Tao Foo is served in clear soup containing varieties of food items like ladies fingers, chillies, bitter gourd filled with fish paste. Even fried dumplings and fish balls is serve together as well. It's is sometimes eaten with rice or served with noodles.

Fatty Mok Hakka Yong Tao Foo @ Salak Selatan/South
Another eatery that I wanted to visit for quite sometime which is located at Salak Selatan, a place with many nice food. It's difficult to find parking at this area especially in the morning.

Yong Tao Foo @ RM 0.90 per piece
Crispy and crunchy with tasty and fresh fish paste filling. But, the size of the Yong Tao Foo is too small.

Dried Fried Meat Noodles @ RM 4.80
An unique noodle dish that goes along with the Yong Tao Foo served. This noodle dish is good!! Although the preparation and presentation of this noodle is simple but the bowl of noodles itself looks inviting.

By the way, consider not to order their Fish Ball Vermicelli Soup, the fish ball is springy but the vermicelli tasted weird.

Various Fried Noodles @ Restaurant Tong Shan

A restaurant that serves noodles with different cooking style. Named it! They have it! Besides noodles, they do serve rice as well and other dishes as well. But seems like everyone is heading there for their delicious noodles servings.

Restaurant Tong Shan @ Salak Selatan

Fried Pak Guo @ RM 6.00
The other restaurants are serving "pak guo"(cantonese) or "pek keh" (hokkien) fried in Hokkien Mee style. But at Restaurant Tong Shan, you can choose for the Dry Style Fried Pak Guo, which is fried with salted vegetables and fried dried shrimps. Obviously, the good culinary skills of the chef working with the hot fiery wok heat makes the Fried Pak Guo delicious and aromatic.

Fried Kwai Fah Noodles @ RM 6.00
Another aromatic fried noodles recomended by the owner of the shop.

Drinks
A glass of herbal drink to soothe the throat after the deliciously fried noodles....Yummy!!

Char Siu Rice @ Kedai Kopi Tian Hong

" Halo....blogger! I have a place to recommend you! The char siu (roasted pork) hor....taste like bak kwa!" This is the call I received the other day during office hour. I was shocked ! Not because of the person who called, I was shocked with his descriptions of the char siu...So we managed to visit this coffee shop during weekend for lunch!

Kedai Kopi Tian Hong @ Salak Selatan
Not only the outer layer is tasty and crispy, the meat itself is tender and well tasted with the seasonings. So here is the part where Jun mentioned, it tasted like bak kwa, the over burnt part and it's great. Look at the pic.....I am drooling! Jin ho jiak ler!!!!

Char siu literally means "fork burn/roast"pork. A traditional cooking method for the long strips of seasoned boneless pork, where the boneless pork are skewered with a long fork and placed in a covered oven over the fire. The meat is seasoned with a mixture of honey, five-spice powder, fermented to fu, soy sauce, red food coloring (optional) and sheery/rice wine (optional). These seasonings turned the exterior of the meat dark red, and normally maltose may be used to give char siu its characteristic of shiny glaze.

It's been quite sometime since I ate char siu (years??), the reason is my previous puppy's favorite meal is char siu rice. Few months ago, I was mentioning this to my friend when he was having char siu. wan tan mee....he then threw his piece of char siu on his plate, acting like as if he is angry....My puppy gone missing few years ago....

Well....thanks for the good recomendation Jun!.... I heard that this place is crowded during weekdays lunch hour....so it would be better to visit after 1 pm I guess....but they might be running out of other optional dishes....I was asking the friendly owner for name card, but he said they don't have any.... and he gave me this....

So....now you know where is it! But, I have forgotten to ask for their operation hours, try your luck if you are interested..If it is not open on that day, there is another recommended restaurant nearby, which is always crowded as well.....will post it next time!.
