One of the popular noodles dish in Malaysia. It's the yellowish noodles served with a thick spicy potato-based and shrimps gravy garnished with a hard-boiled egg, spring onions, bean sprouts, fried shallots, tau kwa (dried/ fried beancurd) and lime juice.

The name of the restaurant "SAMBAL" which literally means chilli paste caught my attention as I love spicy food. The food served by SAMBAL is adequate/complacent but there is still room for improvement. Work harder!

一品锅 Jadepot Dim Sum & Steamboat @ Batu 5, Old Klang Road

Visited Jadepot Dim Sum & Steamboat on 26 March 2011 for dim sum after my girl mate's registration of marriage. We were invited for a dim sum session here. Thanks gal!

Noticed that they served steamboat as well, and then planned to dine in. What's the outcome? Let's see...

Jadepot_100

Four types of soup base to choose:
  • Tom yam soup base
  • White carrot soup base
  • Fish Head soup base
  • Hot & Spicy soup base
Add RM 5.00 to have two different soup base and we picked Tom Yam & Fish head soup base. Both tasted good.

Set for 2- RM 49.80
Set for 4- RM 89.80
Set for 6- RM 139.80

Jadepot_101

Above is set for two. Add in side orders if you crave for more. The fishballs with minced pork stuffing and prawn balls with salted eggs stuffing was excellent. Other than this, there are plenty of other side orders like fresh grouper fish slice, tiger prawns, scallops and abalones.

Worth trying! Ingredients- fresh and good, perfect service and definitely a pleasing environment.

And yes, dim sum was satisfying too!

Here's a suggestion- Restaurant Tin Sum 點心之家 at Taman OUG, Old Klang Road, a dim sum house runs by a Fu Chow family! Definitely a good one!

Do expect a big crowd here or it's either earlier or later that you can easily find a table. Anyway, it won't take too long to wait too.

Teochew porridge by Restaurant Lock Tin (乐园潮州粥) @ Old Klang Road

Lock Tin, a teochew porridge restaurant initially operating in a small and humble hut hidden behind a snooker plaza along Old Klang Road has moved to a shop lot across the road! Even the restaurant has moved to a shop lot, somehow the location of the restaurant is still not easy to be spotted. Kinda weird, but still as crowded as before.

About Teochew porridge (congee)

Teochew also known as Chaozou is located is Guangdong China and Teo chew porridge is believed to be one of their cultural dining style.
Porridge known as "mui" is the teochew version of rice porridge. Porridge are watery with visible rice grains and normally served with various types of dishes like fish, preserved meats and eggs etc.

Varieties of dishes by Lock Tin Teo Chew Porridge-1

Varieties of dishes by Lock Tin Teo Chew Porridge-2
Restaurant Lock Tin prepares 30 types of delectable dishes everyday. Dishes include vegetables, fish, meat and preserved food. All dishes are fresh and definitely not some leftovers. With that much of selection, one can hardly resist to dine in at Lock Tin. It's alright if you do not fancy porridge as they do serve rice as well and most important of all, the prices are reasonable compared to others.

Some selection of dishes for dinner with a bowl of double boiled lotus root soup and yes, that means there are double boiled soups available too.

Lotus Root Soup by Restaurant Lock Tin
My post doesn't end here and it continues with seafood theme. Also there are various type of seafood porridge serve by Lock Tin. Looks delicious but am yet to try!

Fishball Noodles @ Restaurant Song Wan/ Kedai Kopi Song Wan, Old Klang Road

Restaurant Song Wan (Kedai Kopi Song Wan)
has been operating for many years and is famous with it's signature fishball a.k.a Uncle Lim Fishball. The coffee shop starts operating at 7 am in the morning and that's the time when you notice the emerging crowd around the coffee shop.

It's a beautiful Sunday morning again! A day to start with an astonishing breakfast....

Restaurant Song Wan a.k.a Kedai Kopi Song Wan- Uncle Lim Fish Ball @ Old Klang Road

Fishball Noodles with clear soup base served with fish ball and minced pork
It's not the noodles, it's the marvelous springy and chewy fish balls that attracts the crowd! Once mixing the minced pork into the clear soup base, it's even tastier! Am delighted with the fishballs actually. The fish meat are finely pulverized leaving a smooth and springy texture and yet the sweetness of the fish meat is well preserved within.

Fishball Lou Shu Fun served dry (Soy sauce) -with fish ball and minced pork

Another thing that is to be made known to everyone, the soup base prepared are without MSG! Song Wan used to have a stall in Oasis Food Court, Mid Valley but I am not sure if it is still operating after the food court was moved. So, if you are looking for a place that serves quality fish ball, here is the recomended restaurant for you.

Breakfast @ Subway

I find it rather interesting to know more about the background of some food outlets. Each time after a visit of an eatery, I would do some details finding. So here is another fast food restaurant that I know more in depth now.
I have always wanted to try the breakfast by Subway, unfortunately they serve breakfast only from 9 am- 11 am. One fine Saturday, I drove to the nearest Subway at my area and reached there at 11.05 am. " NO, we don't serve breakfast after 11 am sharp"

Fatty Porridge 肥佬田鸡粥 @ OUG

Porridge also known as rice congee is popular among the Asian countries and very often it is considered a food suitable for the unwell as it helps indigestion. It is also taken as an everyday meal. As for me, I don't really fancy congee, as the fullness doesn't last long.

But, I do eat congee once in a while especially when I don't feel well. Visited this popular stall in OUG for few consecutive days and it seems that the congee served by fei lou (fatty) is appetizing. The most popular serving would be the claypot gong poh frog and then the claypot ginger and onion fish. The dish are served with plain porridge.

Fatty Porridge 肥佬田鸡粥 @ OUG

Dried Scallop Congee @ RM 7.00
It's plain and simple but damn tasty! Dried scallop or more known as conpoy boiled with congee and ginger. It's appetizing and seems nutritious!

Claypot Gong Poh Frog @ RM 16.00 served with plain congee (claypot) @ RM 1.00
Frog cooked in claypot with dried chillies, onions, ginger and the seasoning. A flavorsome dish to eat along with the plain congee.

Does this looks delicious to you?

Claypot ginger and onion fish @ RM 16.00 served with plain congee (claypot) @ RM 1.00
Fish cooked in claypot with ginger and onions and seasonings. A tasteful and fresh dish to eat along with the congee.

Basically, the types of congee served by fei lou are delicious. The congee were boiled till soft and fine and the dishes here are tasteful and appetizing. Do try!

Pork Noodles @ Restaurant San Sea, OUG

This business stall has been operating for about 30 years and it's known as one of the best stall in KL that serves the best pork noodles. So they said it's definitely worth the trouble of braving this jam packed part of OUG.
During, peak times there are two cooks preparing the dish

I have tried their pork noodles few years back but it is not of my liking. I was flipping one of the old magazine and saw reviews for this stall and decided to revisit for their seafood noodles this time.

Seafood Noodles @ RM 4.50
The seafood noodle is served with a light but tasty soup and generous portion of seafood.

Pork Noodles @ RM 4.50
I think the essential part of the Pork Noodles served by this stall is the soup which is a rich broth made of minced and filleted pork cooked in a pork stock.

The noodles dish is normally served in soup but you can opt for the dry(kon-lo) style, where the noodles is tossed with soy sauce and the soup will be served separately.

Although parking is a pain, you will see people lining up to order for their noodle dish which is obvious that the pork and seafood noodles serve by this stall is worthy!

Operating hours: 6 am to 3 pm (closes every Wednesday)

Little Taiwan Restaurant @ Pearl Point, Old Klang Road

When it comes to the question "What's for lunch/dinner today?" We hear friends suggesting Japanese food, Korean food, Western food or others but not Taiwanese food. Perhaps, we don't have much choices of restaurants that serve Taiwanese Cuisine as yet. Or maybe I am just too ignorant and am not aware of it.
Little Taiwan Restaurant was first opened in Year 2000, a restaurant that serve varieties of Taiwanese Food, snacks and bubble tea.

About Bubble Tea

Bubble tea also known as Boba tea are beverages with chewy tapioca balls with mixture of gelatin( jelly alike). This beverages were invented in Taiwan in the 1980s. The tapioca balls are often called as "pearls" due to it's size and are translucent and black in color. The bubble teas are served with a large straw in order for one's to enjoy the the pearls together with the drinks.

Little Taiwan @ Pearl Point Hotel

Green Pearl Milk Tea @ RM 5.90
A fresh and soothing milk beverage with slight taste of green tea served with "pearls".

Spicy Hot Ramen @ RM 9.90
Too much of bean sprouts and spring onions, with small portion of ramen served. Soup was spicy with slight herbal taste but flavourless (not salty). Overall, it's just an average noodles dish.

"Little Taiwan" Claypot Lou Shu Fun @ RM 10.90
A claypot of Lou Shu Fun by "Little Taiwan" which is not so special at all. Really miss Uncle Romario's Lou Shu Fun, a stall operating in Medan Sunway (Sunway Food Court).

About Lou Shu Fun(老鼠粉)
Lou Shu Fun( Cantonese)/Lao Shu Fen( Mandarin) is known as SILVER NEEDLE NOODLES in English. It is a variety of Chinese noodles. The noodles are made from ground rice flour, and the noodles are short in size and white semi-transparent in color.

Special Taiwanese Meatball @ RM 8.80
I guess the portion of salt was all used up to make this SPECIAL Taiwanese Meatball and that is the reason why the Spicy Ramen is lack in taste. The meatballs are too salty.

Taiwanese Salted Chicken @ RM 8.80
ShihLin XXL chicken tasted much nicer. Well, the chickens are crispy and crunchy but.......just normal fried chicken without any special flavor/marinades.

I should have listen to my best pal! She mentioned to me earlier that, Little Taiwan Restaurant serves food which is considered below average. Well....well.....no harm trying something different. I guess, it's better to go for the bubble teas only.

Despite my comments on their food, I noticed that the business in Pearl Point Hotel is running well. Again, different people with different taste bud huh~~
