TEPPANYAKI 鉄板焼@ Sungei Wang

About Teppanyaki

Teppanyaki, is a worldwide known Japanese cooking concept. It's a one of a Japanese cuisine, where raw ingredients/ food are fried on an iron griddle. Teppan literally means 鉄板 -iron griddle and yaki indicates grilling.

Well, here is another suggestion for everyone! If you happen to be in Sg Wang plaza, Try Teppanyaki! Teppanyaki used to be a place that we often go for lunch BUT NOT for Teppanyaki.

Confusing???

The explanation - We used to visit Teppanyaki for chicken rice! To the left of the restaurant, there is a corner for chicken rice. It think it's run by the same owner of Teppanyaki- am not so sure though and never intended to ask. Tried Teppanyaki only after we(office) moved out from the Golden Triangle area.

Teppanyaki @ Sungei Wang Plaza

Chicken Teppanyaki @ RM 9.50

Cuttle Fish Yaki @ RM 10.50
Wonder why it's named as cuttle fish yaki??

And, of course, it's better than Mr. Teppanyaki!! Okay, I admit- I dislike Mr Teppanyaki very much, !!

But, if I were to compare Teppanyaki & Mr Teppanyaki- Teppanyaki is much better ( for me)!

Bumbu Desa @ The Curve

Bumbu Desa, one of the Indonesia's leading restaurant is now here @ The Curve!

Was at The Curve to meet one of my friend for lunch last Sunday. We were strolling down "The Street" and the crowd at Bumbu Desa caught my attention!

Took a quick glance and saw a notice stand placed near the food display island. It indicates that the restaurant served ala carte dishes and it's not a buffet system.

I guess the food displayed at the island cabinets has given patrons the wrong idea that it is a buffet. As for me, the restaurant is kinda like a "medium to high end" mixed rice restaurant to me. Am pleased with their dishes and I revisited the restaurant the next day itself.

Bumbu Desa @ The Curve
Bumbu desa serves Sunda (Western Javanese), Padang & Melayu Cuisine. Dishes are displayed on an island, with a small indication card with a brief description of the dish. Picks your favorite/preferred dish and after frying/cooking or reheating, food will be served shortly.

Nasi Lewit
Traditional Sunda steamed rice (steamed with coconut milk and anchovies) and then served with fried anchovies. Appetizing!

Ayam Pop @ RM 7.90
Ayam Pop, one of the chicken dish believed to be originated from Padang, Indonesia. A dual process dish, the chicken was first steamed and then sauteed.
I have ordered another chicken dish- Ayam Bumbu Desa but missed taking picture of it.

Like the tenderness of the chicken, taste wise- pleasing!

Fried Talapia @ RM 16.90
Well marinated deep fried talapia. Crispy and crusty and yet juicy! Goes well with the sambal paste!

Vege @ RM 4.90

Kailan @ RM 4.90

Gulai Daun Singkong @ RM 4.90
Simmered kale leaf in coconut milk with and spice. Not as appealing as described.

Paku Pakis @ RM 4.90
The word "Paku pakis" always reminds me of the plant we used to learn during in school. Gulai Paku, also sometimes known as Gulai Pakis is a vegetable dish that originated from the Minangkabau ethnic, Indonesia.
Gulai Paku Pakis served in sweet and sourish broth, tasted ordinary.

Chilli paste @ RM 2.50
My favorite of all!! Ended up with red and thicker lips after this!

Cucumber Ice @ RM 5.90
Blended ice cucumber with lime juice, a popular drink among the Achehs. A little cooling effect for me after the meal.

Nothing extraordinary, just another dining experience to share. Am not concluding anything.... but will definitely return (but not so soon) to try other dishes! Food displayed like a buffet spread is so tempting! You might be attracted too.....

Pastis Cafe @ The Gardens

Tea Set for lunch and cakes as desserts after dinner!

Pastis @ The Gardens seems crowded during lunch hour. It raises our desire to know more about this cafe and we decided to have our lunch there. Since, my colleague and I were quite full, we had the teas set for lunch.

Pastis @ The Gardens

Afternoon Tea Set for 2 @ RM 48.90

Afternoon Tea Set for 2 comes with:

2 pcs Tomato Bruschetta
2 pcs Toasted Salmon Sandwich
2 pcs Mini Mushroom Quiche
2 pcs Scones served with cream & jam
2 pcs Cake Sampler
1 Chocolate Mousse Sampler
1 Tiramisu Sample 2 cups of coffee/tea served with biscuits

Nothing so special about it. Not pleasing either.... Within the week itself, my colleagues and I were there for a drink and have a go for their cakes as dessert.

Apricot Crepe Cake 50% Promo @ RM 6.95
Tasted like my failed experiment after few hours of war in the kitchen !!!

Marble Cheesecake @ RM 11.90

Pastis Hot Chocolate Lava Cake with Ice Cream @ RM 12.90

The other two pieces of cake were neither very good not very bad. I have not try their main course and lunch sets am not grading it. In all probability, I will no revisit....

But then again, I welcome suggestions... or tell me about your Pastis experience!! Convince me...

Japin 绝 品 @ Sungei Wang Plaza

The worldwide known Japanese noodle dish, ramen is believed to be originated from China and reached the Japanese culture later on. Although ramen originates from China, there are countless variations of ramen in Japan. The noodle dish is served in a meat/fish broth and normally topped with sliced pork/pork cubes.

Besides Ajisen ramen, JAPIN is my favorite spot for ramen. The restaurant was opened in year 2009 at Sungei Wang Plaza after the Lower Ground floor is renovated. I used to have ramen for lunch but too bad, we moved out (office) from the Golden Triangle of Kuala Lumpur area already. Doesn't matter anyway...I revisited JAPIN!!

JAPIN @ Sungei Wang Plaza

TANTANMEN @ RM 12.80 (set @ RM 14.60 served with salad and green tea)
Spicy Soup with minced por. Do request for the minced pork to be served separately to have a better taste of it!

Kakuni Japin Ramen @ RM 15.80 (set @ RM 17.60 served with salad and green tea)
Stewed pork with sweet and saltish -soya sauce rich soup based served with soft boiled egg. The soft boiled egg is known as Ajiatama egg, a seasoned boiled egg. The egg yolk is still is sort of soft and runny.

Japin do served Ajitama as a side dish- if you would like to taste more of it!

Geki Kara Ramen @ RM 12.80 (set @ RM 14.60 served with salad and green tea)
My all time favorite choice of ramen!! Why?? Because it's extra spicy! Ramen served in spicy soup base top with few sliced pork.

Kimuchi Ramen @ RM 12.80 (set @ RM 14.60 served with salad and green tea)
Ramen served with kimchi and pork. Not so spicy though but still, satisfying!

Craving for ramen? Try Japin!

the Yogitree @ The Gardens

It has been a month or more since I last blog. Kind of experiencing the rusty brain syndrome right now!! Anyway, a review on my last few months visit- the Yogitree. It's a treat for Jessie on her big day- November 2009 ( Now you know for how long I have been delaying my post). Tried out most of the eateries at that mall and if I am not mistaken there are a few left untried and this time, I suggested the Yogitree!

the Yogitree @ The Gardens Mid Valley, Kuala Lumpur
A cafe that promotes awareness on healthy living. the Yogitree, is a food cafe that serves delicious organic meals as well as a yoga boutique. The yoga boutique is attached to the cafe and probably you would like to shop for yoga wear while waiting for your meals being served?

Am not much into Yoga anyway...Hhhmmm... Let's talk about food!!

Salad of Skewered Chargrilled Prawns with oriental dressing @ RM 26
Oriental salad dressing taste best on a mixed green salad! The dressing is prepared with sesame oil, vinegar and honey- light, sweet and tangy- it's refreshing.

Mee Siam served with curry sauce @ RM 22
Organic brown rice vermicelli (mee siam) with chicken, prawns, homemade fishcakes, Chinese chives and tau fu. Not bad!

Ayam Perchik Nasi Ulam @ RM 22.00
Organic Jasmine brown rice with fresh ulam, ikan tumeric and baked organic chicken topped with perchik sauce.Organic brown rice texture is medium hard and chewy, a bit dry but -unobjectionable!

More about brown rice: http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=128#howtouse

Ginger Spice @ RM 12.00
Ginger, Honey, Yogurt, lemon juice and mint
Stated in the menu: Rich in bioflavanoids, its an instant lift to flagging vitality. Great for fighting cold and the probitic bacteria in yoghurt is essential for immunity.

Kinda like this drink!! Perhaps I should say...I always love drinks with ginger.

JojoLittle Kitchen @ Kuchai Lama

The first Jojo Little Kitchen was opened in Kuchai Lama in year 2007/2008 and in year 2009, few more outlets sprouted at Klang Valley.

Jojo Little Kitchen serves:
  • Traditional Pan Mee
  • Herbal Chicken Pan Mee
  • Curry Laksa Pan Mee
  • Dry Curry Pan Mee
  • Hot & Spicy Pan Mee
  • Knife Cut Pan Mee (Noodle)
  • Lat Jiu Pan Mee
  • Fish Ball Pan Mee
  • Century Egg Dumpling Pan Mee
  • Fried Pork Pan Mee
  • Jojo's Pork Pan Mee
  • Fish Head Pan Mee & Others
Off all listed above, one of the most popular pan mee dish is the chicken herbal soup pan mee.

Chicken Herbal Soup Noodles @ RM 7.00

Chicken Herbal Soup Pan Mee (Teared version) @ RM 7.00

The chicken herbal soup ingredients consist of Dropberry (Yù Zhú-玉竹) and Wolfberries (Gei Ji-枸杞子) and that explains the sweetness of the herbal soup. Sharp in taste!

Fish Head Pan Mee- new and only available in certain outlets!

Knife Cut Pan Mee @ RM 6.00
I like the noodle texture, with a soft bite, you can feel the springiness of the noodle. And the broth was good too. It goes particularly well with the pounded chillies with dried shrimps.

3 Types of chillies served- chilli paste (Sambal), red chilli powder & pounded bird's eye chilli

Good try & Do try!!

Big Nose Restaurant @ Kuchai Entrereneur's Park

The name of the restaurant itself caught my attention-Big Nose Restaurant! Not only I am interest to join the crowd at the restaurant for dinner but also to see how big is the owner's nose!

Big Nose Restaurant @ Kuchai Entrepreneurs Park

Fried vegetables- 4 types of beans (四大天王)

Salted Vegetable with Duck Soup
A simple, light and yet delicately tasty bowl of double boiled salted vegetable with roasted duck soup. In fact, the tender roasted duck intensifies the bowl of soup... it's good!

Claypot Beancurd with Roasted Pork
Fried bean curd and roasted pork with mushroom and thick sauce-what do you think? Sharp in taste and simply pleasing.

Steamed Patin Fish
And lastly, the signature dish of Mr. Big Nose's restaurant- steamed river fish. We ordered patin fish also known as silver catfish is a pretty oilish (but not oily) fish but with fine texture. Steamed with light soy sauce, nice and pleasing!

Food is pleasing but quite pricey! I have lost the receipt and name card, can't provide much info here, but it is easy to locate- if you would like to visit!
